Bio
Mika Takahashi (São Paulo, Brazil, 1988) is a visual artist primarily dedicated to painting. Her most recent work emerges from visual references to the world of dreams and memory, while also engaging with a wide range of scientific imagery related to the universe — on both macro and microscopic scales. Her paintings evoke manifestations of bioluminescence and the symbiotic relationships among species of insects, fungi, plants, and cells from various forms of life. Through a painterly process marked by gestural expression and the layering of dense or diluted oil paint, she creates abstract compositions that suggest the dynamic nature of organic forms in constant transformation. Each canvas invites viewers into a contemplative immersion at the intersection of reality and imagination, science and pictorial fiction.
Before these organic-abstraction explosions, Mika painted a series of landscapes and everyday scenes that seem to merge vintage portraits with fantastical settings. These works compose a universe where fantastical beings, animals, and humans coexist with ruins, spaces on the verge of disappearing, or images that appear to capture a memory or dream just as it dissolves from existence. The narrative weight of her work is deeply connected to her personal trajectory, as she worked for many years as an illustrator and comic book artist for publications and animated videos. She is the author of two books: “Ink Stories” and “Além dos Trilhos”. Mika holds a degree in Design from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in São Paulo.
In 2025, she held her first solo exhibition, Noctiluca at Simões de Assis, São Paulo. Her most notable exhibitions include the group shows “Intimidade das Formas” (2024), curated by Yudi Rafael at Casa Zalszupin, São Paulo; “RAW” (2024), Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel + HOA Galeria, São Paulo; “Ponta dos Dedos” (2023), Galeria Bianca Boeckel, São Paulo, with a text by Carollina Lauriano; and “Terra Incógnita” (2023), Gruta, São Paulo, with a critical essay by Vinícius Gerheim.
